Recently I have been testing out an amazing safety device that hikers, campers, joggers, walkers, and parents ALL NEED – the Illumiseen Belt. With the addition of Hiking Baby #2 to the family, we purchased a Thule Urban Glide Double Stroller for hikes, walks, and trips to the park. However, with the days shortening as we enter Fall, our family activities often end up in the late afternoon and early evening darkness.
Luckily I was given the opportunity to try out two Illumiseen Belts, which I happily strapped to the front and back of our Thule hiking stroller. The Illumiseen Belt gives me lots of peace of mind – it acts as a safety light, a reflector, and, on a separate setting, a flashing light for even more safety. Since I started using it, several people have stopped me to ask about it (some even thought it was custom for the stroller!). Read on to find out more about this amazing and (thankfully!) affordable light!
How Can You Use An Illumiseen Belt?
There are numerous ways to use an Illumiseen Belt. As I already noted, strapping them onto the front and back of the hiking stroller was my preferred choice. You can also wear it as a regular belt, strapped across your shoulder, or around your backpack. You can really get creative – perhaps on a motorcycle, a ski helmet, or with some modification on a trekking pole. A major benefit of its design is that the Illumiseen Belt is adjustable – my toddler could wear it around his waist, I could strap it around even my largest backpack, and it fit the width of my double stroller!
In the slideshow below, you can see some photos of my tests of the Illumiseen belts.
What Settings Does an Illumiseen Belt Have?
The Illumiseen Belt can be operated in three modes: Off, Flash Mode, and Solid Mode. Both of the lighted modes are extremely useful and the Flashing Mode provides an extra level of safety when you’re adventuring at dusk or nighttime.
How Does the Illumiseen Belt Re-charge?
Simple – all I had to do was plug the included Micro USB cable into my laptop’s USB port. A small light on the battery/switch compartment let me know it was done charging. For the two belts I tested, charging took about 45 minutes each. The charge lasted for approximately 17 hours of mixed Flashing Mode and Solid Mode use.
Specs of the Illumiseen Belt
- Dimensions: Because the belt is adjustable, it can be as small as 31.5 inches or as large as 43 inches. It is just shy of 2 inches wide.
- LED Quality: It is highly reflective and the light is good quality. It definitely provides a strong light. While I couldn’t verify this independently, the company claims that it can be seen as far as a mile away. For my purposes it worked excellently.
- Colors: Green, Red, and Blue. I tested green and red Illumiseen Belts.
- Pricing: $19.99
