National Geographic’s Surviving Everest is a nice look into the life of Sir Edmund Hillary after he became the first person to summit Mt. Everest, but has very little time dedicated to the actual climb.
The video is split into 3 parts, the first part focuses on the challenges and traumas faced when climbing Everest, the 2nd part focuses on Sir Edmund Hillary’s charitable efforts for the sherpa people, and the last part is a good interview with Hillary.
If you’re looking to learn more about the sherpa people, the later part of Sir Edmund Hillary’s life and Sherpa guide Tenzing Norgay, then it is worth watching. You’ll be disappointed if you expect a film that is about “Surviving Everest”.
