Fayetteville, North Carolina has a plan to get families outside this summer, and encourage geocachers from all over the country to visit their town – they’ve organized the Greater Fayetteville GPS Trail Trek!

They’ve hidden 10 ammo boxes/caches among 13 trails in the area, and have stocked them with local patriotic trinkets and of course a log book.

“Fayetteville is a great place to geocache because of all the history we have here waiting to be discovered and is one of only a few towns in North Carolina to have an official geocaching game,” said John Meroski, president and CEO of the Fayetteville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau. “We hope that the Greater Fayetteville GPS Trail Trek not only attracts visitors to the area, but also allows them to see the cultural diversity of Fayetteville/Cumberland County. Even locals have the opportunity to go out and explore things they may not have known were right in their own backyard.”

Sounds like a lot of fun! Maybe Los Angeles will follow their lead? 😉
