When I first started backpacking, I ran into a friend at the local outdoors store who had already been backpacking for many years. I asked him what he thought I really needed to purchase. Guess what he said?
A spork, and down booties! Certainly not what I was expecting, but now I completely understand.
Sporks are exactly what they sound like: a “spoon” and a “fork” together. What is particularly nice about the Light My Fire Spork is that it also has a knife.
Unlike regular plastic utensils, sporks are made of heat resistant material (so they won’t melt if you leave it too close to your stove). They’re very light weight, and all I have to remember is to pack just one utensil, not 3. That saves a bit of precious space in my backpack and cuts down on weight.
