The new High Peak Lite N Fast sleeping pad truly lives up to its name!
While I am not an ultralight backpacker, every avid backpacker is always looking to shave a few pounds and ounces from their pack weight. I love being comfortable and will carry a few extra pounds when it means a more enjoyable time spent in the wilderness. So I generally bring along my Thermarest Trail Pro, which weighs 2 pounds! That’s pretty light, but definitely not as light as the High Peak Lite N Fast.
I’ve taken the High Peak Lite N Fast along on a few camping trips, and I have been pleasantly surprised at the comfort level.
This 1 pound 5 oz. sleeping pad shaves weight vs. a traditional backpacking pad by using a mummy shape, rather than a pure rectangular shape (see picture). Since most of us sleep in mummy shaped sleeping bags, it is a smart design choice.
Other cool features besides the light weight? First off, it packs down small, as expected. It is self inflating, so very easy to set up after a long day of hiking. Lastly, it is really comfortable because of the relatively thick diamond cut foam sandwiched in the middle of the mattress. You can see it in the picture above. I was definitely impressed after sleeping on this pad 3 nights in a row. Note: I always use a closed cell foam pad underneath an air mattress, which is even more important in the winter to block out the cold from the ground.
Overall? I’m quite impressed with the High Peak Lite N Fast. It is very affordable with a retail price of $62, much lower than similar Thermarest pads. And if I can get a good night’s sleep and shed 11 ounces from my pack, it is a win-win!
