Steph Davis is an amazing athlete, rock climber, BASE jumper, and self described friend of dogs. And yes, she likes to be in high places – she climbs extremely exposed pinnacles in the desert, jumps off the Eiger, and every time I see a new video on her blog she seems to be falling out of planes or off of a high rock somewhere in the world.
Steph is no ordinary climber. Unlike a lot of climbers that use protection, Steph “free solos”. Free soloing is a very daring sport, where climbers have to be sure of every foothold and handhold, for falling would be certain death. There are no ropes, harnesses, or anchors involved in free soloing – it is just you and the rock!
I first heard about Steph at last year’s Banff Film Festival. Since then I’ve learned a lot more about her. She’s an accomplished author, an active blogger, and very well educated. In fact, she has a Masters degree in Mountaineering Literature, and she took up climbing life after deciding that law school wasn’t right for her!
Check out prAna athlete Steph Davis in action, free soloing Castleton Tower! Steph’s website is called High Infatuation.
Yes, definitely. Free soloing is such a dangerous sport. It is too bad a legend like John Bachar is no longer with us.
John Bachar would be proud, if he were still around.
I’m glad you liked it! Check out her website for lots more footage.
Great video! I’ve never seen anything like that. Thanks for sharing, Hiking Lady!!
