This Labor Day weekend I’ll be living the Hiking Lady motto of “Let the Adventuring Begin!”
I’m headed to South Lake, in California’s Sierra Nevadas about 20 miles southwest of the town of Bishop. I was there last year, and loved it so much that I’m going back!
Since many of you asked about it on Facebook, I’ve posted the trail map I created using my National Geographic Sierra Nevadas Trail Explorers program.

I can’t wait!!
I never thought that South Lake, California Sierra Nevada Mountains is that beautiful. I would definitely love to go hiking there someday.
Thank you, Andra!
Carol! I just want to wish you an awesome adventure! I admire you for how you live your life!
Thanks! There are loads of great hiking trails in the area so you’ll be sure to find some to help you reach your 500 mile goal ๐
I’m so excited that you’re headed up there too! Last year I backpacked in to Bishop Lake (close to Bishop Pass) beyond the bottom portion of the map above. This year the hike in will be a shorter one. You’ll need permits for overnight backpacking, but they’re not too hard to get. Be sure to stop at “Parcher’s Resort” for a hearty breakfast if you are close to the South Lake trailhead http://www.parchersresort.net/ I’ll let you know how the mosquitoes are. Shouldn’t be too bad since it will be Sept soon ๐
Thanks, Carol! I’ve been completely taken by your trip and have begun planning an “adventure” of my own to the same area in two weeks! Thanks for the inspiration and I hope you have a great trip full of excitement and completely void of injury. ๐
