National Geographic Magazine just named their 2016 adventurers of the year, and it is wonderful to see a woman included in the group, especially a sherpa woman.

Pasang Lhamu is a 31 year old Sherpa who grow up in Nepal. At the tender age of 15, she decided to take up mountaineering to support herself and 6 year old sister after the passing of her parents. She has climbed and guided some of the world’s tallest and deadliest peaks, including Mt. Everest and K2, and has broken gender barriers in the Sherpa culture than tends to lack cultural opportunities for women.

She is an inspiration for all of us female adventurers, whether or not we are weekend hikers and backpackers, Appalachian Trail thru hikers, or Himalayan peak climbers.

Check out more at National Geographic to learn about Pasang Lhamu.

Happy trails!
