Hiking Lady Goes Kayaking!

After hiking on of my favorite trails ever…the Bishop Creek trail in California’s Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains, I picked up a paddle and went hiking on the beautiful alpine lake, South Lake.

Check out a minute long video of my little adventure. I hope you enjoy the scenery as much as I did!

And for those of you who want to check it out yourself, here’s where South Lake is located:

Thanks for watching. Happy trails!

  1. Combining the two is great too as there are some great areas that are much easier to access in a kayak. I tend to establish a base from my kayak and then do short hikes to explore. Its great fun plus its nice to have a fresh fish for dinner every now and then.

Thanks for the comment, Donna. Yes, trekking poles are fantastic to help prevent knee strain while hiking. If you haven’t seen it already, check out the entire section here on HikingLady.com all about Trekking Poles. Happy Trails!

I like to use poles when I’m hiking too. Helps with the knees:)
Hiking and kayaking are similar to me in the sense that you are surrounded by beauty and peacefulness

Kayaking is my first choice unless I can climb a nice mountain. Preferably a fourteener or a high point of a state. My weight makes kayaking an easier choice. I use poles when hiking. Glad to hear you enjoy kayaking too. It gives me a sense of adventure, freedom, and independence. Much easier to haul gear too.

How cool is this? It’s nice to mix it up a bit.
Hiking and then a fun kayak ride. Thanks for sharing.
