Movie of the Month: IMAX Everest

IMAX - Everest

I love IMAX movies. As a kid my mom used to take my brother and me to see them, and I can vividly remembering soaring over the Serengeti and space walking! Or at least that’s what it felt like when I watched the films.

In 1996, a team of climbers led by Ed Viesturs traveled to Everest with the goal of filming the tallest peak on earth in full IMAX film! Talk about a challenge lugging that camera and film up to the summit. Well they did it, and did it extremely well.

Check out my full review of the IMAX: Everest film, and if you’ve seen it, let me know what you thought of it.

Enjoy!

Ed Viesturs has a new book about climbing K2!

World class mountaineer Ed Viesturs is coming out with a new book in October called “K2: Life and Death on the World’s Most Dangerous Mountain.”

Ed is the first American climber to summit all 14 of the world’s 8000-meter (26,200 ft) peaks! I recently watched Ed interviewed on The Colbert Report, and you may recall seeing him in the highly acclaimed IMAX film: Everest.

Book of the Month: High Exposure

High Exposure

This book started my obsession with all things related to the Himalayas.

I picked up a copy at a local used book sale, because I was intrigued by the cover photo. The author is the famous cinematographer who filmed one of my favorite movies, IMAX: Everest.

Check out my full review of High Exposure on my book review page.

Ed Viesturs on The Colbert Report

The world class American mountaineer, Ed Viesturs, was once again interviewed on The Colbert Report. Ed was the first American to climb all 14 8000-meter (26,200 feet) peaks in the world! Now that is quite an accomplishment! And if that isn’t enough, he did all of the climbs without supplemental oxygen! Sit back and enjoy hearing about his Everest and other peak climbs…

Ed was on The Colbert Report in March 2007 and made a promist to put a Colbert Report flag on the peak next time he summited Everest. Since he just got back, we’ll find out whether he kept his promise!
