Why I like my Thermarest Z Seat

When I snowshoe, sometimes my lunch break isn’t conveniently located near a warm, dry rock. Actually, most rocks I find are always icy, but that just might be my luck!

When I saw that Thermarest made a small version of its closed cell foam sleeping pads, I bought one. I use my ThermaRest Z Seat as a sit pad for winter hikes, as well as summer hikes.

It is extremely lightweight and can easily be attached to a daypack (check out mine in the picture!).

Thermarest makes other sit pads for that pack down smaller for summer hikes, but this one is my go-to sit pad for winter snowshoeing and hiking.

Plus, in addition to keeping my bum happy, it is nice knowing I have closed cell foam with me for emergency purposes. It could be used to wrap up an injured limb to protect it from further abrasions.

The other sit pad I use is my Thermarest inflatible seat. I use that one in the spring and summer when I don’t need the insulating properties of the closed cell foam that the Z seat provides.

I also love this sit pad. I also use it under my hip bone when I sleep in addition to my sleep pad. Thanks for the idea about the splint. Can also be used as a kneel pad to get in and out of tent. Love your site.
