    Hi Ann,
Sounds like you had an amazing experience on your first trip to the Grand Canyon. I hope you do decide to go back someday and go hiking and backpacking!

  2. Ann says:

Before my husband and I become avid hikers, we visited the Grand Canyon and it was an amazing trip. I’ll will never forget on an early morning walk, the sound of bird’s wings rustling in the cool morning air or the mule deer that calmly crossed our path, so close to us. It was one of our most spiritual moments. As a hiker I would love to go back and really explore the area now.

Love your site!! You inspire me

I haven’t been to the Grand Canyon but really want to go!! Maybe if I win this video it will help me plan a trip!

Oooh a rafting trip sounds amazing! I love how a thunderstorm or any sort of weather can change the feel and look of a place instantly. The world we live in is amazing!

I went with a group of 7 girlfriends (ages 45-65) riverraft to phantom ranch a few years back. Camped out 2 times prior on the river bank. After a restfull sleep at phantom ranch with a thunderstorm that night we all had a glorious hike up out of the canyon where the national park is. Such beauty and great memories. Ready to go back.

That is so great, Andra! I totally agree about the anticipation factor… It always makes the trips so much better if they are planned in advance and there is a lot of time to think about all of the fun things to do!

  7. Andra says:

I am working my way in that direction! I have done Glacier National Park, Bryce Canyon and Zion. Next year will be Arches and Canyonland and then it will be time to consider the Grand Canyon! I love reading books, looking at photos and watching videos of places I plan to go. I get a kick out of anticipation!

I have never been to the Grand Canyon. It is on my to do list. I hope that with in the next 2 years to go out there and hike it. I would love to concur it.

@Kim Wow! Congratulations! Hope your backpack wasn’t too heavy… 9 miles uphill without a pack is a challenge too!

  10. Kim says:

Just completed the Rim to Rim Sept 19. What an adventure, a tough adventure. I was amazed that my body obeyed my mind when I felt I couldn’t take another step. WOuld do it again, but would add Indian Gardens to the overnight, that 9 miles up with a backpack is a challenge.

  11. Susan says:

We went to Grand Canyon years ago as part of a longer camping trip. My children were about 5 and 9 at the time. I spent the majority of my time trying to pull the five year off the edges of every hike we went on as well as convincing him he really didn’t have to lean over every fenced edge to see how far down the drop was. Of course, that left my nine year old girl who has no fear free to practically fall down a cavern. Oh my! But we have the best of memories!

We went to the Grand Canyon this summer with my family. My wife, my oldest son, and I hiked down to the Mile-and-a-half Resthouse on the Bright Angel Trail. Had fabulous views and talked with a number of interesting people on our frequent rest breaks. The hike back up took me forever it seemed (I should really get into better shape) but I loved it and would like to go back some day to explore more of the canyon, perhaps even a rim-to-rim backpacking trip.

  13. Hiking Lady says:

It is definitely worth going back again, Ashley! The producers of this video have explored the Grand Canyon countless times. It seems to be one of those places that can provide a lifetime of exploration.

  14. I used to live in AZ and only managed to go to the Grand Canyon once. And it wasn’t even when I lived in the state! It was beautiful and I’d love to go back. I was very sick on my trip so I was only able to take a few pictures – no hikes, no rafting. Hopefully someday I’ll make it back and have some fun.

  15. Hiking Lady says:

Thank you so much for your kind words, Nora, and congratulations on your summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro! That is fantastic!

There are a lot of unique places to explore in North America, and I sure hope you have the chance to come to the U.S. someday too.

    Dear Hiking Lady,

I’ve never been to the Grand Canyon, in fact, I’ve never been to the US ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m Nora, 28 year old female from Egypt & I stumbled upon your site because I was searching for hiking/clothing tips/info as I was departing to attempt Mt. Kilimanjaro 2 weeks ago. I found your shoe lacing technique to avoid slippage particularly useful. And was so glad that there was an all female website providing such useful info for hiking ladies on different fronts! Oh and on Sept 17th, 2010 at 11:20am I successfully summited Mt. Kilimanjaro. ๐Ÿ™‚

Really great job on educating avid female hikers with your experiences & hope that some day I can hike in the wonderful wilderness of the US.

    cheers,
    Nora
