Up

Up - Disney Pixar Movie

You probably didn’t expect an animated film to show up on Hiking Lady’s adventure movie top picks list, but Pixar’s new film Up is a memorable and fun adventure movie!

The protagonist, 78-year-old Carl Fredricksen, is an irritable widower who shared a livelong dream with his wife Ellie to explore an exotic and remote destination in South America, Paradise Falls.

Though a touching, tear-jerking, 4 minute dialogue free montage the viewer learns the life story of Carl and Ellie, only to find that they never make it to Paradise Falls, “A Land Lost in Time”. Determined to finally see it, Carl, now an old man, attaches helium balloons to his home and heads on his journey.

But soon he finds out that a neighborhood kid, Russell, is accidentally along for the ride! Russell is a Wilderness Explorer striving to earn his last merit badge (think Boy Scouts!), but needs to assist an elderly person to get the award. And so the adventure story begins!

I saw the movie when it was on the big screen, but now it is out on DVD and I highly recommend you watch it!

Hiking Lady’s Recommendation: 5 of 5 stars
